This margarita costs $1,200, which is basically $150 per sip

This cocktail will take you from the pour house to the poor house.
It’s called the Billionaire Margarita, an intoxicating gimmick in a goblet at the London Bar, and it costs a whopping $1,200 — $1,182 more than the bar’s normal margarita.
Why so expensive? The 10-figure version of the normal Mexican cocktail includes Patron en Lalique tequila, which sells for $7,500 a bottle, and a Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac that costs $216 an ounce.
Add in some fresh squeezed juice and fancy bitters and it all adds up to a handsome weekly salary.
"You're definitely extra careful with these drinks. You don't want to spill a drop," said Jayson Goldstein, the London's food and drink director who dreamed up the drink to celebrate National Margarita Day, which everyone knows is on Feb. 22.
"There are only 500 bottles of this tequila," Goldstein said, initiating me into the Billionaire's club with a petite pour of the rare Patron. "There are floral notes and of oak."
Such notes weren’t heard by this untrained palette — though the tequila went down smooth as cashmere. And the margarita was like liquid satin kissed with sweet fruit that delivered a swift, gentle buzz.
Did it taste like it was worth 1,200 agaves?
No, but that's not the point. Super-expensive stunt cocktails come and go. They're more about getting attention and feeding the ego than tickling the tastebuds.
So far, no one has actually bought a Billionaire Margarita, which has been on the menu at the London Hotel for about a week. But "three or four" pours of Patron en Lalique have gone for $900 a pop, Goldstein said.
The typical margarita at the London goes for $18-$24. And you can celebrate the margarita's big day all over the city.
"It's a good excuse to go out and have a great time," said Goldstein. "Not that you need an excuse."
